The integration enables healthcare organizations to use the 1Kosmos platform to verify the identities of providers and external clinicians before granting access to EpicCare Link.

Healthcare organizations routinely enroll thousands of providers into EpicCare Link environments to support care coordination, referrals, and information sharing. However, identity verification during onboarding often relies on manual processes, trust in external organizations, or knowledge-based verification methods that provide limited assurance that the individual requesting access is who they claim to be.

Unlike approaches that rely primarily on credential checks, organizational attestation, or manual review, 1Kosmos combines government-issued document verification, biometric matching, liveness detection, device intelligence, and configurable workflow logic in a single onboarding experience. This provides healthcare organizations with stronger assurance that the individual requesting access is the actual clinician they claim to be, helping reduce the risk of unauthorized access, identity impersonation, and fraudulent account creation.

When a referring provider begins onboarding, EpicCare Link routes the clinician to a 1Kosmos identity verification workflow through OIDC. The clinician receives a secure link, captures a selfie, and scans a government-issued ID. 1Kosmos verifies the document, matches the selfie to the ID, performs liveness verification, evaluates fraud signals, and returns the verification result to EpicCare Link. Once identity verification is successfully completed, account provisioning proceeds automatically.

Customizable without Coding
The workflow is fully configurable through 1Kosmos Workflow Builder, allowing healthcare organizations to tailor verification requirements, onboarding policies, and user experiences to their specific operational, security, and compliance needs. This enables health systems to strengthen access controls for referring provider networks without custom development, additional IAM workload, or a more burdensome onboarding process for external clinicians.

The 1Kosmos identity verification process conforms with NIST Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2) requirements, delivering the level of identity assurance needed for access to sensitive healthcare information. IAL2 verification establishes high confidence in a clinician's claimed identity through government-issued document authentication, biometric matching, and liveness detection, helping ensure referring providers are securely verified before receiving access to EpicCare Link.
